NEWRY, OCTOBER 24, 2019 — KX, a division of First Derivatives plc, announces the release of kdb+ 3.7t, the latest version of its time-series database, kdb+. This test version of kdb+ includes a number of new features that enhance performance, security, and interoperability with other technologies. Key among these features is support for Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory.

Kdb+ is both an in-memory and on-disk database with a robust built-in query language, q, and a complete real-time streaming architecture. Recognized for its simplicity and performance, kdb+ is widely used for high-performance computing in the financial services industry and is increasingly being used in other industries with IoT-driven analytics.

Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory, supported on second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, is a game-changing technology from Intel, which will allow kdb+ users to increase the performance and capacity of their applications. Through reduced memory costs and significant infrastructure consolidation, Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory should also reduce the total cost of ownership.

Kdb+ 3.6 is already compatible with Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory’s Memory Mode, which delivers significant improvements for both in-memory and on-disk datasets. Available in kdb+ 3.7t, support for App Direct Mode will give users control over Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory, taking optimal advantage of the technology to suit their applications. Users will be able to explicitly designate which data fields to store in DRAM versus the much-faster persistent memory, effectively tiering the “hottest” data into the lowest-latency resource for higher overall performance.
