(12 June 2018) KX, a leader in high-performance computing, today announced a collaboration with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to make its kdb+ database system available on Google Cloud Launcher for mission critical use cases, complex analytics, machine learning and operational intelligence applications.
KX customers can now take advantage of both the Google Cloud Platform’s fully managed cloud service and kdb+ on demand, allowing them to leverage the speed and performance of kdb+ for time-series analytics on large-scale streaming, real-time and historical data, while offloading operating overhead.
Kdb+, and its built-in programming language q, are recognized by developers as uniquely efficient tools for building complex systems, producing results significantly faster than with other popular open source and proprietary technologies. Moving kdb+ development to GCP creates further efficiencies for developers, allowing them to build and scale systems in minutes, eliminating the need for internal IT infrastructure. Together, kdb+ and Google Cloud enable companies to streamline time to market, scale as required, and concentrate on business results.
KX is planning a number of container-based installations on GCP over the coming months, including Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), enabling greater flexibility when deploying software for DevOps teams. KX customers and prospects can either sign up online with their Google credentials, or bring their own licenses and deploy directly on GCP, KX will support such migrations as a service partner. Several KX customers are already in the process of deploying kdb+ on GCP.
Marcin Kurc, Head of Cloud Commerce, Google Cloud said: “At Google Cloud we strive to make it as easy as possible for customers to deploy, purchase and manage leading solutions in the cloud. With availability on Google Cloud Launcher, KX is bringing the increased efficiencies and scalability of the kdb+ database system to Google Cloud Platform, simplifying procurement processes and allowing customers to focus on building a successful business.”
KX COO Mark Sykes said: “Working together with Google on real-world applications in the financial services sector, we have proven the benefits of this partnership. We are totally committed to the delivery of our technology stack on GCP and believe in Google’s platform-based ‘elastic compute’ approach. Combined with kdb+ on-demand’s flexible pricing model, the Google partnership makes kdb+ and KX technology more widely accessible to a broader universe of users across a wide range of industries.”
