Palo Alto (31 May 2000) – Telstra Corporation, the premier electronic communications company in Australia and a leading carrier in the Asia Pacific region, has selected Kx Systems’ Kdb relational database for use in their state of the art call analysis system.
Telstra is building a proprietary system capable of processing and analyzing millions of call records a day in real time. Telstra project manager Val Labas said, “We needed a technology that was extremely fast and capable of performing complex analysis on the server. We found that traditional database products were not able to economically scale up to the volumes required to handle Telstra’s global wholesale business. The Kdb database system had the flexibility and performance characteristics we needed.”
“We are very excited to add Telstra to our client list. It is especially gratifying because we have always felt that Kdb was a good fit for the telecommunications industry,” said Arthur Whitney, CTO of Kx, and inventor of Kdb. “Our vector-based approach to relational database design is quite different from that of the traditional vendors,” he added. “With our model we have been able to build a system that is optimized for the most extreme types of computing situations: that is, for situations where complex analyses need to be performed on massive amounts of data in real time. This makes Kdb among the fastest database technologies in the world. We have not been able to find any product that can come close to our results.”
