Kx Systems, a subsidiary of First Derivatives plc (FD), and provider of the industry-leading kdb+ time series database, announces that it has joined the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), the world’s leading organization transforming business and society by accelerating the adoption of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Kx will work with other IIC members to support digital transformation through the adoption of best practices in big and fast data.

Companies are deploying connected devices and sensors together with analytics to gain insights, make predictions and improve business results. This is increasing the velocity and volume of machine-generated data exponentially driving the need for new approaches and technologies for processing, storing and analyzing this information. The IIC, founded in 2014 by AT&T, Cisco, General Electric, IBM and Intel, is encouraging these developments across industries including energy, healthcare, manufacturing, smart cities and transportation.

Kx provides software for ingesting, processing, storing, analyzing real-time, streaming and historical data coming from industrial equipment sensors, enterprise systems and other connected devices supporting real-time decision making and machine learning applications. Kx is helping companies reduce variability, reduce downtime, and reduce waste in industrial processes by significantly reducing the time it takes to perform rich analytics on high-velocity and volume data streams.

Dr. Richard Soley, Executive Director, IIC, said, “Real-time data analytics is key for many industrial companies to achieve successful business outcomes. We are thrilled that Kx has joined the IIC to share its expertise with our members.”

Przemek Tomczak, Senior Vice-President IoT and Utilities, Kx Systems said, “The Industrial Internet of Things is leading the digital transformation of entire industries including manufacturing, energy, and telecommunications. We are excited to work with the IIC and its members to accelerate the adoption of best practices for big and fast sensor data management and analytics to enable this transformation.”
