New York (2 May 2013) – Kx Systems, the leader in high-performance database and time-series analysis, is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU-Poly) Big Data Finance Conference on Friday, May 3, 2013. The sponsorship is the latest of Kx Systems’ ongoing Academic Program initiatives to educate university students about the central role that its technology and q programming language play in addressing the financial industry’s key data challenges.
Hosted by NYU-Poly’s Department of Finance and Risk Engineering, the one-day event will bring together financial executives and top academics to examine the issues created by the rise of “Big Data” and the areas where technology can unlock the power of data to advance the financial industry. The event will feature presentations from CFTC commissioner Scott O’Malia and Morgan Stanley managing director, Kevin Atteson. It will examine topics such as data analytics and financial econometrics, financial sentiment and news analysis, Big Data and credit risk, Big Data finance in market microstructure, high frequency trading, and algorithm execution. The event will take place at NYU-Poly’s campus in downtown Brooklyn.
“As many top financial institutions utilize Kx Systems technology and the q language, the aim of our Academic Program is to arm tomorrow’s programmers, risk managers, and traders with the tools and insight to tackle data challenges before they start working on Wall Street,” said Fintan Quill, Senior Engineer at Kx Systems. “The Big Data Finance Conference is an ideal venue for innovators, thought leaders, and university students to exchange insight on the challenges and opportunities presented by Big Data. Our support and participation at this conference is a natural extension of our ongoing outreach.”
Through its Academic Program, Kx Systems partners with universities in the U.S. and Europe to promote instruction of the q language in programming courses. The purpose of this program is to produce highly qualified and motivated graduates who are able to take advantage of the enhanced employment opportunities that enterprises using Kx Systems technology typically offer. In addition, the Academic Program provides guest lectures, sponsorship of university projects, and exposure to Kx Systems’ customer base for internship and work-experience positions.
